CV Writing Tips

If you’ve got a loved one in prison and want to help them get ready for work, we’ve got some top tips for you. Why not share them in your next letter or phone call?

These top tips are all about writing a CV.

A CV is a document which lists your skills, qualifications and work experience.

It explains to recruitment agencies and potential employers what kind of work you’re looking for.

It’s a good idea to create a CV before you get released, so you have something ready to use when you start looking for work.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have formal qualifications or work experience from outside prison, because you will definitely done some kind of course or job inside prison. Those count too!

You don’t need to write that you did those jobs in prison unless the employer specifically asks.

However, you need to be honest. Don’t put any jobs or qualifications down unless they actually happened. You’ll get caught out if you lie.

There should be someone in your prison who can help you with your CV. Ask your Key Worker or Offender Supervisor for more information.
